A nearby super-Earth shows signs of an atmosphere
PreprintA preprint reports a tentative atmospheric signal—real, but not yet peer reviewed.
Astronomers report a tentative detection of an atmosphere around a temperate super-Earth roughly 40 light-years away. The signal is consistent with a thin, carbon-bearing envelope, though the team is careful to label it preliminary.
If it holds up, it would be one of the closest rocky worlds known to retain gas against its star's radiation—an ideal target for follow-up.
